About Our Camps

  • ​Our camp emphasis is on learning creative skills, making new friends and exploring ways that theatre can bring ideas to life. Every camp session ends with a presentation for family and friends.
  • Our camps are each one week long, but you can register for as many weeks as you like.
  • Every week is a new week of fun! Camp sizes are limited, usually ranging from 14 - 16 students per group. We create an environment that is safe, supportive and encouraging.
  • Whether your child is a beginner or an advanced student, 6 or 16 years old, The Acting Company is the place to be for summer fun!

WHEN: 
Camp begins each day at 9:00 a.m. sharp. We end each day at 4:00 p.m.

BEFORE AND AFTER CARE: To facilitate the working schedules of families we offer before and after care.  The children are supervised in an open play situation from 8:00 am - 9:00 am and from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.  Depending on the age group and needs of the children, they have a chance to relax, read and play supervised games.  Reservations in advance are required, and a fee of $55.00 is due at the time of registration.

REGISTRATION:


After registering, you will receive a confirmation email showing the dates of your child's camp. Closer to the start date of the camp, you will receive another email with a Health & Safety form to be filled out confirming your child's full name, age, any health concerns, and much more.

(Only our 'Theatre Creators' and 'Outdoor Theatre' camps during the weeks of July 31 - August 4 and August 8 - 11 take place outdoors at Billings Estate Museum.)

WHEN: 
Camp begins each day at 9:00 a.m. sharp. We end each day at 4:00 p.m. Students get a 15 minute morning and afternoon break, as well as a one-hour break at lunch. For camps that take place at our 738A Bank Street location, the group walks with the counselors and camp manager to a nearby park for lunch and fun outside.

Circus Skills Camp (Ages 6-8)
JULY 4th - 7th (4 day)

Campers will have a "big top" tent load of fun, creating a clown character using traditional theatre and improvisation techniques.  Campers will develop a clown scene, in small ensemble groups made up of new friends, and they will have an opportunity to learn new object manipulation skills, such as ball and scarf juggling, diabolo, flower sticks, feather balance and plate spinning.  Campers will get to try all the fun toys listed and present in a cirque du soleil type of performance.

Camp fee: $265 + HST


Creating Drama Camp (Ages 8-11) - Instructor: Rebecca Benson & Christine Hecker
Creating Drama is a great way for children to tap into their creativity. Great drama games help children learn how to use their voice, body and imagination to develop characters, scenes and stories. Creating Drama is drama “off the page”, where children learn that drama is about creating original stories, together. It’s a full camp of drama fun! Two camps to chose from. Each camp is different!

Drama Explorers Camp (Ages 6-8) - ​Instructor: Lauren Welchner
This camp will bring out the actor in every child! Through imaginative pretending, drama exercises, crafts, and stories, students will explore different aspects of drama. On the last day of camp, friends and family are invited to an open house showcasing what the students have been exploring during the week!

Film Creators Camp - Instructor: Derek Price
Ages 11 - 13 & 12 - 16 years
The Acting Company's camp for young filmmakers helps you to learn how to use, as well as act and write for, the camera. The camp offers you the opportunity to gain hands-on-experience in video production. You'll learn basic techniques to help you bring your creative vision to the screen! 
Over five action-packed days, you and a team of fellow students will produce a short film. 

Ages 11 - 13: August 14 - 18 SOLD OUT
Ages 12 - 16: August 21 - 25

Improv Camp - ​Instructor: Mike Kosowan
Ages 12-16 years (Note: the camp for 11-13 years is no longer available)

This is a fun and energetic course - and it will fire up your imagination and creativity! Improv is a great skill for young actors to develop. It builds confidence, increases creativity, imagination, teamwork, and listening skills. Students are taken through the building blocks of improvisation and learn how to build on those skills to create nuanced characters and engaging performances. The week ends with an improv presentation to family and friends.
Ages 12 - 16: August 8 - 11 (4 day)

Musical Theatre Camp - Instructor: Leah Cogan & Accompanist
Ages 8 - 11 & 11 - 13 years

Musical Theatre combines 3 artistic disciplines – singing, dancing and acting – into one exciting course. Students will get the opportunity to perform with specifically chosen material from Broadway shows, with an emphasis on skill building through performance. These classes are designed for both the beginner and experienced young actor. Fun and challenging exercises hone the student's singing, acting and dance skills. Using live musical accompaniment, students also gain valuable insight into what to expect when auditioning for musicals throughout our community.

​Putting on a play is always fun! Our instructors take you from script to performance. You’ll discover how to play a scene, create interesting characters and work with fellow actors to bring the play to life. Our focus is on you – the actor. The camp ends with a performance for friends and family.

Theatre Creators Camp (Ages 8 - 13) - Instructor: Jennifer Cecil
Location: Billings Estate (2100 Cabot Street)

Say 'goodbye' to the Studio and 'hello' to fresh air and sunshine in this theatre camp held on the expansive grounds of the historic Billings Estate Museum! Campers will spend plenty of time outside playing theatre games, exploring how to tell stories in unique and creative ways, and will get to create their own original play using the natural backdrop of the beautiful Estate. Theatre in the great outdoors! Camp is different each week, so you can sign up this camp more than once.

Theatre Exploration Camp (Ages 12-16) - Instructor: Paul Griffin​
This one week course invites youth to join creative & challenging acting classes and workshops to have fun and hone their skills. The week includes classes in performance, improv, mask work, voice and more! The session will conclude with an open house showcasing what the students have been working on. Two camps to choose from, and each one is different!
